What's God's Calling For Me??

This is something that every person in this world asks themself at one time or another...what am I here for - what was I created to do and for what purpose, etc. In 2 Peter 1:1-11, Peter writes that we are to make our calling sure or certain - how do we do that?

Check out verses 3-11 here: His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. 10Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, 11and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Do you get that? The closer we get to Jesus, beginning a 1 on 1 relationship with Him, spending time in prayer and His Word - daily...the closer we get to Him! The more time we spend with Him, the more we become like Him and the more our minds, hearts, dreams, desires, etc. get more aligned with His unchanging, unaltering perfectly set Plan.

You see, the moment we surrender what we deem to be best for us to Jesus, then He begins to show us His will and plan for our lives and we can securely rest and trust that our Almighty Father will undoubtedly always take care of us.

You might be asking, 'But Dav - that doesn't answer my question...what is my calling for my life?!' I'll answer this: God created you and gave you talents, skills, abilities that are unique to you - some of them may be very obvious and clear to you - others you may never know about unless you accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. These are spiritual gifts that are developed and sometimes even revealed after salvation. Those gifts, talents, abilities that God created you with, are meant to be used to honor, glorify and worship Him! It doesn't matter if your athletic, academic, musical - whatever...use them in worshiping Jesus by doing your best, each and every time! If you're doing them for self-glorification, recognition, etc. - not only will the rewards you get and life become extremely unfulfilling, but they may be taken away. God will not be ignored, mocked or shoved aside - only He is worthy of any glory, honor, praise or worship - only Him! If we realize who we are apart from Jesus, which is nothing - absolutely nothing...but with Jesus as our Saviour we can do anything! (Phil. 4:13)

The key is humility - and that's one of the hardest things for all of us because we are so bent on pride and arrogance - it's our default nature. The Bible says, 'If we humble ourselves before the Lord, He will lift us up' (James 4:10) Here at Taproot, we are committed to helping you find where your giftedness lies - even spiritual gifts. In our Covenant Community (membership - coming this fall, tentatively), you will find God's calling for your life and have the opportunity to use them here at Taproot, serving in a ministry and living it out each and every day - all for the honor and glory of Jesus and for our ultimate benefit.

If you have any other questions or comments, feel free to email or call me at the church office and I'll be more than happy to talk with you more. God bless you guys - have a great rest of the week in the Lord and hope to see you at the Saturday evening services!

In His Service,

Dav
